A video compressor that doesn't need your files
Most online video compressors work the same way: you upload your file to a stranger's server, wait in a queue, and hope it comes back looking right. We built one that runs on your own device, so a video never has to leave your computer just to get smaller.

Why we built this
The trigger was mundane: a video too big for WhatsApp, an inbox that rejected an email attachment, an Instagram upload that looked worse after the platform re-compressed it.
Every existing tool either buried the free option behind a watermark, forced an account before showing a single result, or quietly uploaded the file to a server with no explanation of what happened to it afterwards. ShrinkVideos is the tool we wanted to use ourselves: drop a file in, pick a quality level, get a smaller video back — nothing more required.
How it actually works
Every file takes one of two paths. We pick automatically, and we're upfront about which one yours takes.
Most files: on your device
Nothing uploadedYour video
Your browser
Smaller video
On desktop, files up to 200MB are compressed inside your browser with FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The file never leaves your computer, so there's nothing for us to see, store, or lose.
Large files: on our server
Auto-deletedEncrypted upload
Our server
Deleted in hours
No browser can reliably hold a multi-gigabyte video in memory, so bigger files (and smaller ones on phones) are processed by native FFmpeg on our server, then deleted automatically within a few hours. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
What we care about
Privacy by default
Most videos never leave your device. Compression runs locally in your browser using WebAssembly — we simply never see the file.
No dark patterns
No watermark on the free tier, no forced signup to try the tool, no fake countdown timers. What you see is what you get.
Fast, on purpose
Because compression happens on your own hardware, there's no upload queue and no server load to wait behind.
Honest about limits
Larger files do need our server, and we say so plainly — along with how quickly that file is deleted afterwards.
What you can do with it
Built on proven technology
No proprietary black box — the same open standards the rest of the video world runs on.
FFmpeg
The open-source engine behind most professional video software. We run the same encoder you'd use on the command line.
WebAssembly
Lets FFmpeg run inside your browser at near-native speed, which is what makes on-device compression possible.
Modern codecs
H.264 for compatibility, H.265 and VP9 for smaller files, and AV1 for the best compression when server processing is available.
