Privacy Policy

On desktop, videos up to 200MB are compressed entirely on your own device using FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly. The file is read by your browser, processed in memory, and handed back to you as a download. It is never uploaded to ShrinkVideos or anyone else.

The same applies to the Video to GIF and Thumbnail Grabber tools, which always run in your browser regardless of file size.

Some files are sent to our compression server instead:

• files larger than 200MB on desktop,
• files larger than 80MB on phones and tablets, which have less memory to work with,
• jobs using a codec that can only run on the server (such as AV1).

These files travel over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The original upload and the compressed result are stored only while the job runs and until you download it. An automatic cleanup job runs every 30 minutes and permanently deletes files once they are a few hours old. We do not open, watch, analyse, or share uploaded videos, and we never use them to train anything.

We keep the minimum needed to run the service:

• Account details — if you create an account: your name, email address, and a password stored only as a bcrypt hash. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email, and profile picture from Google instead of a password.
• Plan and usage — your plan, subscription status, renewal date, and how many compression credits you've used this cycle.
• Activity events — sign-ups, logins, checkout starts, plan changes, and completed or failed compressions, each with a timestamp and IP address. Compression events include the settings used (preset, target size, codec, resolution), the file sizes before and after, and any error message. They never include the video itself or its file name. If you're signed in, these events are linked to your account.
• Analytics — anonymous usage data collected by Google Analytics (see below).

• to provide the service, sign you in, and apply your plan's limits and credits,
• to send account emails you ask for, such as password reset links,
• to prevent abuse, such as rate-limiting repeated login attempts,
• to understand which features are used and fix what's broken.

Essential cookie: when you sign in, we set a secure session cookie so you stay logged in. The site works without it if you don't have an account.

Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics to count visits and see how the site is used — pages viewed, general device and browser type, approximate location, and events like “compression completed”. Google Analytics sets its own cookies (such as _ga) to do this. It never receives your videos. You can block it with your browser's tracking protection or Google's opt-out browser add-on, and read more in Google's Privacy Policy.

We share data only with the providers needed to run ShrinkVideos:

• Lemon Squeezy — our merchant of record for paid plans. They process payments, taxes, and invoices; we never see or store your card details.
• Google — for “Continue with Google” sign-in (if you use it) and for Google Analytics.
• Resend — delivers transactional emails such as password reset links.
• Our hosting provider — runs the server that stores account data and processes large files.

We don't sell personal data or share it with advertisers.

• Videos on our server: deleted automatically within a few hours of processing.
• Password reset links: expire after one hour.
• Account records: kept while your account exists and deleted when you delete it. Invoices and payment records are held by Lemon Squeezy as required for tax and accounting.
• Activity events: kept as long as needed to operate and secure the service.

You can delete your account yourself at any time from your account page. This permanently removes your account and plan, cancels any active subscription so you aren't charged again, and anonymises your activity history. To access, correct, or export your data instead, email contact.shrinkvideos@gmail.com from the address on your account and we'll handle it promptly, within the time required by applicable law.

Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California), you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

The site is served only over HTTPS, passwords are stored as one-way bcrypt hashes, login and signup are rate-limited, and payment details are handled entirely by Lemon Squeezy. No system is perfectly secure, but the safest data is data we never receive — which is why in-browser compression is the default.

ShrinkVideos isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date above. For significant changes affecting account holders, we'll also let you know by email.
